Safe Harbor Navigator Services

Support for youth experiencing sex trafficking and exploitation

180 Degrees, Inc. is Minnesota’s Safe Harbor Navigator for the East Metro region. We have provided services to youth survivors of sex trafficking since 2014.

What is human trafficking?
Human trafficking is a human rights violation. It includes the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining a person for a commercial sex act through the use of force, fraud, or coercion -- and any commercial sex act if the person is under 18.

The Safe Harbor East Metro Regional team is made up of a regional navigator, a mobile case manager and crisis response staff. Together, they foster a stronger service response in the region for victims of sex trafficking, providing training and case consultation to any organization working with sexually exploited youth. In addition, they provide direct service youth experiencing or at-risk of sex trafficking.
Services include:
  • A 24-hour crisis line
  • Service referrals for youth 10-24 years old, of any gender, who have experienced or are at-risk of sex trafficking
  • Crisis outreach, intervention and support for youth
  • Connections to shelter, housing and longer-term services for youth
  • Emergency shelter, in-shelter trauma-informed programming and case management, and after care for youth 19 years old and younger who reside at 180 Degrees' Brittany's Place Emergency Shelter
  • Training, protocol development and capacity-building for organizations working with youth
  • Expertise in identifying, building relationships with, and supporting youth who have experienced sex trafficking and exploitation
  • Case consultations to organizations working with youth experiencing or at-risk of trafficking and exploitation

More than 600 youth under 18 have accessed safety and healing from the trauma of sex trafficking and exploitation at 180 Degrees' Brittany’s Place, Minnesota’s largest shelter and program for survivors and those at the highest risk for being exploited.
